EPA Sustainable Development Challenge Grant

Hopewell TwpAs one of only 40 grantees in the country, The Partnership received funding to support smart growth planning activities in the Central Jersey region. These activities included general constituency-building and case studies of local smart growth planning efforts.

The constituency-building activities included conducting seminars, such as a series of "Smart Talk" breakfast meetings and a roundtable to discuss various public transit initiatives in the Hopewell Valley area of Mercer County. PlanSmart NJ also conducted three case studies of local smart growth planning efforts. One case study was promoting center-based development in a suburban master plan. Another was proposing locations for station-area development along a suburban light rail line, which was in the planning stages. The third case study involved working on a goal-oriented zoning ordinance that would implement village centers proposed in a suburban master plan.
