A Regional Approach to Reducing Traffic Congestion
This
project established a Mayors' Route 1 Transportation Management Advisory
Council representing ten municipalities in the corridor to coordinate and
combine efforts. For phases I and II of the project, KMM contracted with
The Partnership to conduct a corridor-wide approach to traffic reduction.
Work activities included considering a regional traffic reduction ordinance
and producing a report. For phase III, The Partnership worked with Lehr & Associates
(now DMJM + Harris, Inc.) to assess land use practices, existing park-and-ride
lots, bicycle and pedestrian paths and transit service in the region. This
process identified regional deficiencies and gaps. The Mayors' Advisory
Council then developed an action plan to improve transportation facilities
and services and related land development documents. For Phase IV and V,
The Partnership and Lehr & Associates again worked together to implement
traffic calming and regulatory changes designed to encourage the use of
alternative modes of transportation such as bicycling, walking, and mass
transit.
